Codemasters bring the Rally back to the DiRT series.
Dirt 3 is released Spring 2011, and Codemasters are promising somewhat of a return to its rallying roots.
While Colin McCrae's name doesn't appear on Dirt 3, the focus of this racing game is firmly traditional rally events. Dirt 2 annoyed some users with it's more arcade gameplay, and the in-your-face 'extreme sports' style overall. This third installment mixes Ken Block's wheel spinning antics with proper stage based rally events.
Trailers for Dirt 3 show that the realism has been increased, while the new weather effects make rain and snow look stunning. Codemasters see this as the last of a trilogy, and want to create the best off road racing game out there. What we've seen looks and sounds great, but have they done enough to keep fans happy? Unfortunately there will be no demo of DiRT 3.
Dirt 3 promises to be the definitive rally game of the year; mixing realism with fun, and traditional rallying with an extreme sports mentality.
